It’s no secret that I’m fond of a saying. And I love an acronym even more. Who can forget the FOT? Or FOI. Or the TWATs for that matter. Well lucky for all of us, inspiration has struck again.
I was lying on the lounge this week waiting for the feeling to pass and just doing nothing. There I was embodying two of my favourite sayings. And I felt a pang of guilt. I should be doing something. Never mind that the people I work for don’t answer my emails or my calls. So, even though I was quite entitled to lay down on the lounge whilst waiting for a response, I felt bad. Unproductive. If I was Catholic it would be Catholic guilt. I guess that means I must have the Protestant work ethic buried under there somewhere. I should be writing my novel while I’m waiting. I should be exercising. Obviously I didn’t do either of these things.
So I was still lying there feeling guilty when all of a sudden I realised: I can do Whatever I Feel Like. I said it again. Maybe with an extra word for punctuation. Whatever I F$$%%ing Feel Like. I said it again. Then I spelled it out. WIFFL. Then I thought: that has a real ring to it. I might get a hat and a t-shirt.
The incredible thing was that ever since that moment of realisation that I could WIFFL, I’ve been happier than ever.
We heard the word Coddiwomple the other day. It means to travel purposefully towards an as-yet unknown destination, with a sense of adventure and exploration, focusing on the journey rather than the destination. We were all on board with it. Calling ourselves Coddiwomplers.
That’s all very eloquent, noble and highbrow. And I will definitely be coddiwompling this year.
Wiffling is a little more basic. But super fun. A bit like me. Give it a go. Or don’t. That’s the beauty of it. But one thing’s for sure. I bet you can’t wait to see where the wiffler will go next…
